OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Supervises operations of multi-site school food service programs consistent with the nutritional needs of students and for compliance with Food and Nutrition Procedures, State and Federal laws, regulations, and District Board Policies.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1. Assists with the administration and coordination of the District’s Child Nutrition Programs and Department of Food and Nutrition operations.
2. Conducts on-site reviews of assigned school food service programs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and District Policies pertaining to school food service operations and completes required documentation of these reviews per Department of Food and Nutrition and District Policies.
3. Review records of assigned food service operations for completeness and accuracy. Ascertains that food service procedures are followed at the school site level. Instructs and provides technical assistance to food service managers in the correct preparation of reports. Documents discrepancies and corrective action. Conducts a follow-up on-site review to determine that the corrective action resolved the problem.
4. Coordinates food service programs at assigned locations to comply with healthy eating options for students and to promote wellness and a healthy school environment.
5. Monitors and assists in increasing and maintaining a high level of student meal participation in School Breakfast and Lunch Programs. Provides technical assistance to food service managers with the planning, production, merchandising and implementation of the meal service programs to maximize student participation.
6. Monitors school site food service operations adherence to District productivity standards and provides assistance in school site food service staffing, work scheduling and employee training programs.
7. Reviews school food service cash handling and meal accountability procedures and documents – compliance with District and Department Food service accounting procedure at the site level. Provides training and technical assistance to food service managers in cash handling and meal accountability procedures.
8. Monitors the storage, preparation and service of food for proper sanitation and health standards in conformance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations and District HACCP Guidelines. Identifies poor housekeeping practices and unsafe conditions in the food service and adjacent areas and assists in coordinating corrective actions as required.
9. Monitors the Food Service Managers’ food ordering, inventory and receiving practices and food production record keeping. Provides training and assistance to food service managers in food handling and inventory management.
10. Determines food service equipment needs and priorities for the efficient and effective operation of the school food service programs. Assists with planning for renovations and new construction. Assists with the training of managers on the proper use and care of equipment.
11. Plans, develops and conducts food service managers’ training meetings as directed. Plans, develops, and conducts training workshops for part-time food service employees. Verifies and documents that training is provided to food service employees.
12. Acquires and maintains proficiency in Department and District technology and utilizes computer applications for program management by monitoring and analyzing data. Assists in the development of key performance indicators for food service operations.
13. Maintains liaison with community agencies, educational institutions, parent groups, District, Regional, school site and non-school site personnel to foster food service programs as an educational asset.
14. Regularly visits schools and attends District and Regional meetings.
15. Performs other duties related to general administrative responsibilities of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This work requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoor and requires daily in-county travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. Major in Food and Nutrition Science, Dietetics and Nutrition, Hospitality Management, or Family and Consumer Sciences preferred.
2. Minimum of three (3) years of professional and administrative food service management experience in a large school system, university, or commercial institution, or completion of an approved internship, or pre-planned experience approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
3. Possession of valid Florida Drivers’ license.
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
