Meet Your Student Advisory Committee Members

Gabby Vargas, Keiser University

What are your hobbies?

Going to the gym, reading, and attending church.

What is your favorite food?

Anything Asian!

Why did you chose to study dietetics?

I’ve always believed that good health starts with how we nourish and care for our bodies. My passion for holistic wellness comes from seeing how powerful food can be in supporting both physical and emotional well-being. In today’s busy world, many people don’t have the time or knowledge to make healthy choices, and that’s what motivates me to become a registered dietitian. I want to help my community learn how to use food as a tool for prevention and healing, empowering others to take charge of their health through simple, sustainable habits.

What has been your favorite class so far?

I really enjoyed exercise and sports nutrition. I found it so interesting how the body uses different forms of energy to do different activities and movements. Learning how to eat for optimal performance was so eye-opening.

What career area of dietetics interests you the most?

At the beginning of my education, I would have said women’s health and hormonal health. However, I just finished my first supervised practice rotation in community nutrition, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I feel like my eyes were opened to a whole new field that I knew nothing about, but now I really love. I love the idea of helping a whole community of people live well. I also love all the people you get to meet who contribute to the community in some way.

My commitment to the Student Advisory Committee

I am honored to represent Keiser University on the Student Advisory Committee. Throughout my time at Keiser, I have observed that many students are unaware of the valuable resources and professional opportunities offered by the Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. My goal is to increase student engagement by promoting awareness of these benefits and encouraging active participation in the organization. Additionally, I am committed to advocating for the needs and experiences of my fellow students, ensuring their voices are heard and supported.
