Roller skating, crochet, baking, and reading sad books.
What is your favorite food?
Pizza.
Why did you chose to study dietetics?
While working in healthcare I met many patients who were struggling with nutrition (from a food security standpoint and a knowledge standpoint). Two specific encounters standout. First, was the patient who had been disheartened by her diagnosis of coronary artery disease, but after we set her up with a RD and designed an exercise regimen she was able to improve her lab values and also improve her quality of life with more engagement with her grandchildren. Secondly was the patient who told me she only had a can of green beans to eat for the day and my clinic was to help her by reaching out to a local nonprofit to get her an emergency supply of food. After both of these moments, I became involved in my local food distribution events to help those struggling with food insecurity and I started to read and learn more about nutrition. The real influence of the field of nutrition and dietetics on individual lives is what has drawn me to this incredibly impactful field.
What has been your favorite class so far?
Nutrition through Lifespan and Medical Nutrition Therapy.
What career area of dietetics interests you the most?
Clinical, diabetes care, and women’s health issues are some of my biggest areas of interest.
My commitment to the Student Advisory Committee
As a Student Advisory Committee member, I’m excited to represent my university, the University of North Florida, by advocating for student interests and supporting FAND’s mission. I aim to build strong connections between students and nutrition professionals, promote involvement in FAND events, and encourage student leadership in dietetics. I look forward to collaborating with others who are passionate about the field and contributing to its continued growth and advancement.
