Your FAND

Who is FAND? YOU are FAND! Members like you is what makes our organization great. Through your membership and contributions, FAND has a voice for our profession at the state Capitol, provides dynamic science-based educational opportunities, awards scholarships and stipends, and facilitates networking amongst peers.

Whether you attend our symposiums, get involved in our legislative activities or simply rely on our member updates, FAND is what you make of it. We celebrate FAND’s ability to provide a variety of personal and professional growth opportunities. If interested in volunteering your time, FAND Leadership welcomes you to shine in your area of interest.

Involvement can happen at the local level in your district or at the state level. Serving on a committee or running for an elected position is an excellent way to take an active role in shaping the future of FAND.

FAND Governance

The Florida Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND) is governed by a Board of Directors (BOD) comprised of 7 members elected by the membership. The purpose of the BOD is to determine administrative policies, manage the property and activities of FAND and correlate the association’s work with its affiliated districts and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The BOD makes all final decisions for FAND and controls its budget.

In addition to the BOD, the FAND Administrative Council (AC) is an advisory council, which typically meets twice during the operating year. The function of the AC is to develop and adopt objectives, set priorities, implement programs and maintain fiscal accountability as directed by the BOD to further the objectives of the association. Activities of the association are discussed, and fiscal reports are given at the AC meetings. The AC may make motions to present as recommendations to the BOD.

FAND has a committee structure established in order to carry out the work of the organization. Chairs of these committees are appointed by the President‐elect to serve during her/his term as President. BOD members assume responsibility for oversight of assigned committees.
