Start the process by assessing the available awards below and the nomination criteria. If selection criteria is not met, the nominee will not be considered. Annually, Districts and members submit nominations for several AND and FAND awards. Keep a lookout for FAND emails with the subject “FAND Awards” for reminders. Generally, awardees are invited the to Florida Academy Annual Symposium where the awards will be presented at the reception.
Outstanding Dietitian of the Year Award (ODY)
The ODY Award recognizes the commitment to excellence made by an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the profession.
Criteria for Selection
- Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Active participation in the national, state, or district association.
- Is a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
- Not previously selected for this award in current or any other affiliate.
- Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association, community or employment.

Emerging Dietetic Leader Award (EDL)
The EDL Award recognizes the competence and activities of dietitians regardless of their age, who have made distinctive contributions early in their dietetics careers to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Criteria for Selection
- Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Initial practice experience not less than 5 years and not greater than 10 years. Interrupted careers or time periods not in practice, are not to be considered or rationed into the 5-10 years of professional practice experience.
- Active participation in the national, state, or district association for at least 5 years.
- Is a Registered Dietitian, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or Dietetic Technician, Registered.
- Not previously selected as an RYDY or RDTY in your current or any other affiliate.
- Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
- Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association, community or employment.

Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award (RYDY)
The purpose of the RYDY award is to recognize the competence and activities of younger dietitians in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and to encourage their continued participation in association affairs. This group will be an additional resource from which the leadership of the association will develop both at the district, state, and national levels.
Criteria for Selection
- Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Age limit as of AND’s May 1 deadline, 35 years or younger.
- Active participation in the national, state, or district association.
- Is a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
- Not previously selected as an RYDY in current or any other affiliate.
- Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
- Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., either in the Association or employment.

Recognized Dietetic Technician of the Year Award (RDTY)
The purpose of the RDTY Award is to recognize the professional contributions of dietetic technicians in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and to encourage their continued participation in association affairs.
Criteria for Selection
- Active membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Is a Dietetic Technician, Registered.
- Active participation in national, affiliate, or district association.
- Not previously selected for this award in current or any other affiliate.
- Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
- Demonstrated leadership, e.g., legislation, research, education, clinical dietetics, food service management, public relations, career guidance, etc., in the association or employment.

Outstanding Dietetics Student Award
The purpose of the Outstanding Dietetics Student Award is to recognize the emerging leadership and achievement of students in ACEND-accredited dietetics education programs and encourage their participation in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Criteria for Selection
- Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Students must be members by January 1st of the year in which they would receive the award.
- Student enrolled in ACEND-accredited dietetics education program (CP, DI, DPD, DT, FG, FB, IDE/FDE).
- Active participation in the national, state, or district association.
- Demonstrated academic achievement as documented by letters from program faculty or preceptor(s).
- Demonstrated leadership and professional potential; e.g., honors, student dietetic association activities, community service activities, or exceptional volunteer endeavors.

Outstanding Preceptor Award
The purpose of the Outstanding Preceptor Award is to recognize the exceptional teaching, mentoring, and leadership activities of preceptors in ACEND®-accredited dietetics education programs.
Criteria for Selection
- Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Preceptor in an ACEND®-accredited supervised practice program (CP, DI, DT, ISPP, or FEM program).
- Active participation in the national, state, or district association.
- Is a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
- Not previously selected for this award in current or any other affiliate.

FAND Distinguished Member Awards (“Affiliate Awards”)
- FAND Awards Committee reviews nominations and determines the award recipients based on a rubric.
- Nominations are due by April 27, 2023 via the online form. All requirements for the specified award must be submitted for the nomination to be considered.
